There are a few options that people can consider before traveling to Greece, that way they might have an extra idea of what they can do to have internet access. Currently, travelers have at their disposal 4 different options to save a little extra money during their stay in Greece.
Roaming in Greece is one of the preferred options for travelers thanks to its equal prices with other European countries. However, we will present you with 4 effective alternatives to roaming, that way you can choose the one that fits you the most.
If you have used SIM cards while traveling, this option is the right one for you. As the name tells, the eSIM card for Greece is nothing more than a digitized version of a SIM card. Unlike its physical version, the eSIM card offers several additional benefits and features. One of the options currently available is those offered by Hofafly.
Although it is one of the oldest modalities, it is still one of the most effective. Although they were not originally designed to be used during travel, nowadays SIMs work that way.
Acquiring a SIM card during the trip is a task that anyone can do, being able to choose one of those offered by Holafly that provides additional benefits to its users.
If you need a service focused on being practical, the favorite option is Pocket WiFi. The main feature of this modality is to provide the user the ability to rent the product and use it for as long as required, which is the reason why travelers consider it as the first choice.
One of the main advantages of this option is that it is not limited to providing an internet connection to only one person but to as many people as you want.
This option is one of the most limited, but still effective. Throughout a trip, users will find different points where they can make a WiFi connection for free and, consequently, access the internet. Despite being the most limited option, it can help travelers to get out of trouble or solve problems quickly and efficiently.
Once we understand the different options that users have available to connect to the internet when traveling, we can get into a more important topic, the U.S. mobile operators and the roaming services they offer.
Currently, the operator T-Mobile has 3 active Roaming service plans in different parts of the world. Among these places is included the roaming Greece service, which has the same plans whose names are Essentials, Magenta, and Magenta Plus Plan.
The latter plan is the most comprehensive and complete. These plans are very complete, having as a basic feature the internet service along with text messages and calls.
The available options can be varied, however, one of the most outstanding is Verizon. They have a service that despite being basic is very efficient and adapts to the needs of users. Currently, they offer customers the possibility of using two plans, the International Travel Pass and the International Monthly Pass.
The first one costs 10$ and covers the basic needs of a traveler. The second one covers a wide range of features and benefits for the cost of 100$.
Providing a similar service to Verizon, AT&T offers two plans with similar features to those of the previous operator. It has 2 plans available to customers, the first is the International Pass with a cost of 10$ each day, in addition to the internet connection allows you to call and send text messages internationally.
The second plan is known as the International Phone Call Plan, which has a cost of 15$ per month and provides a basic service.
On the other hand, if the destination is the UK, there are some mobile operators that offer quite a good service. But, Vodafone is the only one that actually works.
Unlike U.S. operators, in the UK there is only one phone company that offers Roaming Greece service, this is Vodafone. Despite being the only operator in the whole country that offers the service, it is quite affordable having a cost of only 6£ per day of use.
Now that we have all the necessary information about the characteristics of the services offered by each operator, we will discuss the methods to activate these services.
Being the easiest to configure, users of this service must make a call to activate the Roaming service. What users must dial will vary depending on what they want to do, they can use #RON# or #ROF#.
Just like T-Mobile users, setting up Verizon Roaming is also easy. The first step would be to go to “Settings”, then select the “Mobile Data” section and finally enable the “Roaming” functionality.
Finally, the AT&T Roaming service can be activated in the same way as above, you must go to “Settings”, press on “Mobile Data” and then activate the ”Roaming” option.
Even though the UK has different mobile operators, only Vodafone works with the roaming service. Yet, it doesn’t tell us the service is bad, it is actually pretty good and complete.
The only Roaming service currently available in Greece for travelers coming from the UK is easy to activate. The service can be activated by calling Vodafone’s customer service or through the website by clicking on the ”International Roaming” option.
