This is one of the traditional ways to have internet while traveling, and it is still used nowadays. That’s why today we’ll talk about roaming Spain, due to it being one of the most famous countries in Europe.

Whether you decide to go to La Rambla or spend some nights in Madrid, you need to be prepared to have Mobile internet in Spain from the very first moment. But, it is something easy to do? Is it something expensive? Those are questions that lots of people ask, and we’ll answer them today.

Roaming Spain alternatives: Two options that can save your life and money

Now that you have seen the options available for your trip to Spain, chances are that you might be looking for a different alternative. It’s ok, we understand that sometimes the roaming price can be a bit high, but thankfully, there are other options available for travelers too.

We are talking about the eSIM and SIM cards, which happen to be two solutions that are pretty useful for people who want to save money but yet are looking to stay connected and use their cell phones in Spain. So, let’s see how roaming Spain can change with these two options.

eSIM for Spain

The data eSIM for Spain is something relatively new to people. This technology has been around for a few years now, but it wasn’t until not so long ago that it became famous around the world. eSIM cards are a good option to save money for people that might be looking for something simpler to use.

For us, eSIMs will be taking over the market in the following years, we have no doubt of that. In case you are planning on using an eSIM on your next trip, we recommend you to choose Holafly due to them giving people a nice service overall.

  1. Holafly’s eSIMs come with Unlimited data
  2. You get 120 minutes of talk time included
  3. The coverage range lets users rely on these digital cards in basically every city in Spain.
  4. If you choose Holafly, you will get 24/7 customer support service no matter where you are at.
  5. The eSIM price is cheaper than spending lots of money on a roaming service.

International data SIM Cards for Spain

One of the most important methods to have the internet on your phone has always been SIM cards. People have relied on them for quite a long time, that’s why they have become so famous over the years.

Something that is worth mentioning is that you can get a prepaid international SIM card almost everywhere you go. Whether you visit Barcelona or Valencia, you’ll find lots of places to buy one.

Let’s see some of the benefits that a SIM card can give you if you choose instead of the roaming Spain service.

  1. You’ll be charged a flat rate for the SIM card.
  2. People can call their mobile operator and ask for help if they need to.
  3. International SIM cards tend to give users a new number to receive phone calls.
  4. A SIM card is way cheaper than paying for roaming service.

Pocket WiFi for Spain

A different alternative for people who want to travel and keep an internet connection is Pocket WiFi. These devices have become quite common over the years due to them being a pretty solid solution for people who want to travel throughout the whole world.

The only and main inconvenience with Pocket WiFi is its price. Most of these services cost more than 50 or 60 dollars/euros, and in case you lose one, chances are that you have to pay more than 150 euros or dollars to the company for the lost device.

But don’t get us wrong, it is a good alternative. Most of the services tend to have unlimited data, and if you are careful enough with the device you rented, you should not worry about the extra payments if you lose a device.

Free WiFi in Spain

Something that people can rely on for a while is free WiFi. In Europe, especially in Spain, people can find lots of open wifi hotspots available, but, in case you need a bit of help, there are some mobile apps that can help you with it.

The apps we are talking about are Avast Wi-Fi Finder, WiFi Map, and WinMan, three apps that can make things easier for people who want to rely on free WiFis while traveling through Spain. But remember, it will work for as long as you stay in the WiFi coverage range, once you leave it, you will lose your internet connection, so you should think about it twice.

Surprisingly, different U.S companies offer a roaming Spain service. It might be a surprise for some people out there, but the truth is, it’s something completely normal to see. But, what people truly need to know is what these companies offer to their clients, right?

T-Mobile Roaming Spain service

For T-Mobile clients, they have the opportunity to choose between different plans, each one with different benefits and with a different price.

The first plan, the Essentials Plan, people to have access to unlimited text messages and phone calls with unlimited 3G mobile data for as long as the roaming is active. The Magenta Plan, their second option, offers 5GB high-speed data with unlimited 3G service once they spend the 5G data, as well as unlimited messages and phone calls.

The Magenta Plus Plan is their best option which offers up to 40GB of high-speed data and unlimited 3G if people consume the 40GBs, it also offers unlimited messages and phone calls.

Verizon Roaming Spain service

Another company that people can rely on to get roaming Spain service is Verizon. They offer two alternatives, the first one, the International Travel Pass costs 10$ per day with unlimited messages and phone calls, and it gives users the same amount of data allowance given by their current plan.

The second option, the International Monthly Plan costs 100$, but it gives access to 5GB of mobile data, unlimited received messages, and 250 minutes for phone calls. In case people need more, they will have to pay 0.25$ per phone call, 0.05$ per text message, and 20$ per extra GB.

AT&T Roaming

Last, but not least, we need to talk about AT&T. This company has grown a lot not only in the U.S but also in other countries around the world. But, we’ll focus on U.S plans for today. If you only need to access international phone calls, you only have to pay 15$ per AT&T line that you acquire.

In case you need to get access to text messages, phone calls, and mobile data, then you will need to pay for the International Pass, which costs 10$ per day, making it a solid option for people who wants the roaming Spain service.

Now that we have talked about the U.S operators, now it is time to talk about what UK mobile operators have to offer to people. Will they be a lot different from what we have seen? Let’s see.

O2 Roaming Spain service

If you want to keep things simple and you already are a client from O2, we have great news for you. O2 is one o the cheapest UK mobile operators out there, and their international roaming costs 3.5£ per day, which happens to be a price that we are not used to seeing so much. Also, it will give people access to their data allowance as well as unlimited messages and phone calls.

Three Roaming Spain service

Three is a company with more than one option for its users, but this will happen the next year. For now, the company only offers people the chance to access the roaming Spain service for 2£. Once again, it is a pretty surprising price due to how low it is, but as we said at the beginning, the company is making some changes and this might change during the next year.

Vodafone Roaming Spain service

Just like it happens to Three, Vodafone is currently undergoing some changes. They are still offering the roaming service, but their plans are changing and during 2022 it will all change. For now, people can only access the roaming service through the Xtra Airtime Plan, the most complete plan from Vodafone.

Again, this UK company has surprised us due to them offering the roaming plan for free to its clients, which is pretty amazing. They won’t have to pay to get internet or phone calls, it’s all covered by the company.

How to activate roaming with the different mobile operators in the U.S

So far, we have talked about prices and what these companies offer in their roaming service. But here’s the big question everyone wants to know more about. How do I activate the roaming with my mobile operator? Let’s see.

T-Mobile roaming activation

The process to activate the roaming with T-Mobile is one of the simplest processes out there. Here is what you need to do:

  • To activate the roaming, use #RON#.
  • To deactivate the roaming, use #ROF#

And there you go, now you only need to enjoy it!

Verizon roaming activation

Verizon offers a pretty simple process, just like what T-Mobile does, and we might dare to say that is even simpler actually. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Press “Settings”.
  • Now, press “Mobile Data”.
  • Once you are in there, activate the “Roaming” option and you are good to go.

You will need to do this every time you need to activate the roaming and remember that to deactivate it, you will also need to do it.

AT&T roaming activation

The AT&T roaming activation process is quite similar to the one from Verizon. Here are what you need to do to activate it:

  • Go to “Settings” on your phone.
  • Now, click on “Mobile Data”.
  • Activate the “Roaming” option and activate it.

Remember: when you want to deactivate the roaming, this is the process that you will need to follow as well.

How to activate roaming with the different mobile operators in the UK

We have already seen how people activate their roaming service with the different U.S mobile operators, so now it’s time to see how this process is done with the different UK operators!

O2 roaming activation

First, you will need to buy or ask for a SIM card in O2 that is available for the roaming plans. Once that this is ready, you simply need to send a text message to the following number, 23336, with the following text: O2TRAVEL, and that’s it, your roaming is activated!

Three roaming activation

Three offer its users a process that is quite similar to what we saw in the U.S mobile operators. But, just to clarify it, let’s see how it’s done:

  • Go to “Settings” on your mobile.
  • Click on the “Mobile Data” menu.
  • Press on the “Roaming” button and activate it.

Remember, the deactivation process is the same, but you will have to deactivate the roaming option to set it off.

Vodafone roaming activation

With Vodafone, roaming activation is quite different. People must have a valid Vodafone account to make this possible because they will have to activate the roaming through the companies website. In case you don’t have an account on Vodafone’s website, call 199 and ask customer service to activate your roaming, but beware, this can take a bit longer than expected.
