Just like Holafly or Airalo, Knowroaming is a virtual store from Telna Inc, that sells products such as virtual SIM cards with cellular data for travelers. The data plans of this company are usually regional. What does it mean? It means that instead of getting an eSIM for only one destination, you acquire a virtual SIM card for a region like Europe. Anyway, you can also buy local eSIM cards, like the one for the United States or Canada. Also, these eSIM cards offer a global eSIM.
Another characteristic about this eSIM card is that some of the data plans only last one month. But there are exceptions, of course. Some data plans last 180 days, in case you are making an exchange, or you have to travel for a long time. The price and the cellular data vary from 4 to 90 USD, which includes 1 GB to 20 GB.
You already know that Knowroaming is an online store that sells international eSIM cards. If you want to get one of them, you have to go on to their official website. The purchasing process is very simple, and it is even faster if you have a Google Pay or ShopPay account. When you finish filling out the purchasing form or once you enter one of the accounts we mentioned before, you will have to fill out the payment form. Knowroaming have a good variety of payment methods, they vary from credit/debit card from VISA, MasterCard, Amex, and Discover, to PayPal and the AliPay + Partner accounts.
The whole purchasing process can be done via cell phone or through your computer, on the Knowroaming website. Anyway, before you buy anything you should make sure that your cellphone is eSIM compatible.
On the other hand, the prices depend on two different aspects. Depending on the zone you are traveling, so you can find the same data plan for a higher or lower price. The second aspect is the price of the network you are going to connect to during your trip. It means that, if you want to connect to AT&T (such an expensive operator in the United States) It will be more expensive than if you connected to another operator.
“I have a Travel SIM label and I have a balance of more than $65 on my account (as they require you to add at least $25 every 9 months or you lose the balance on your account). I want to switch to an eSIM, but Knowroaming said that they cannot transfer my balance to their eSIM service, only to another of their Travel SIM labels. It doesn’t make any sense why you can transfer your balances from one Knowroaming account to another. They just make it impossible to use their service and put all possible obstacles to make it inconvenient for customers. I do not recommend their services”
— Cristobal – Trustpilot.
“I signed up for three days of unlimited data, but after 12 hours of use, it’s gone! It has already happened twice and I don’t know why! I’ve emailed them about this issue, but if they can’t fix it, I would never recommend it to any of my colleagues”
— Pete Álvarez – Trustpilot.

“Pathetic and complicated! I would never recommend it to anyone. I lost $20 on this product when I used it abroad, almost all of my $20 worth of data was gone without any warning! When asked for a refund from customer service they had a poor excuse of ‘we can’t do anything since a ticket didn’t go up’. Seriously! I’m supposed to raise a ticket on my vacation when I purchased this product for a simple transition of my phone services”
—Abhijeet Kumar – Amazon
You’ve already read a bit about how this eSIM card works. Now you are going to learn a little more about its functioning and customer service, but you will read all the information other travelers provided.
There will be good and bad opinions. Anyway, most of the bad opinions are aimed at customer service and the International internet.
“I travel a lot, to many different countries and continents, and I have lost more SIM cards than I can count. It’s so perfect and easy to use, it sticks to your existing eSIM card and detects when you leave your home country and only activates then. Then each country changes detects you again, and automatically connects you with a mobile company in that country. You have 2 international phone numbers to use, then when you come back home, you forget they are there. Super handy! It works better in some countries than others, but it had no problems on 4 different continents”
— Chrissy – Amazon
“I just used Knowroaming on my recent trip to the Dominican Republic. Once I got there I couldn’t figure out how to make it work, but I emailed customer service and they helped me. Michelle (customer service representative) was very helpful, and she emailed me the day after I arrived to check if everything was working fine.
I used it mainly to make calls through WhatsApp, and from time to time I had problems connecting to the 3G service in DR, but I wasn’t sure if the problem was Knowroaming or the service there. My husband called me several times using the US number assigned to me, and the communication was very good. Once I got back to my home country, I switched back to the home SIM, and within a couple of minutes, my phone was working on the local network. I would recommend this product!”
— Maria Rivero – Amazon
“I bought an eSIM for the Bahamas, it worked fine, but after 2 days it stopped working. I used your ticket system to request a solution. The reaction was quick and it turns out that the local telecommunications company had some problems. They advise me how to fix my phone with another operator and everything is fine now. Very professional service (Amy)”
— Petr Sramek – TrustPilot.
“Very bad customer service! I have not received any data service in roaming since I ordered your eSIM. And they never solve my problems, and then they asked me to buy a new eSIM again to solve the data roaming failure!”
— Jimmy K – TrustPilot.
“I would have given them 5 stars for the LTE speeds on my eSIM in Spain. The fact that they don’t have an app to check the usage or recharge it, is an unacceptable design flaw. You have to contact them to get usage/balance. They say they are working on it, but it should have been designed first before selling eSIM”
— Margo 100 – TrustPilot.
